“Designate a place outside the camp where you can relieve yourself.” – Deuteronomy 23:12

The “Black Plague”, which began in the 1300’s, killed an estimated one third of the European population. It was caused by fleas and ticks that lived on black rats that feasted on readily available waste and excrement from open sewer systems. In the Middle Ages, hundreds of thousands of people died from other diseases related to human waste, including typhus, dysentery and typhoid fever. In the 19th century, cholera, another water-borne disease related to human feces, raged throughout Europe, Russia, India, Iran and the United States, and could kill a person in 3 days. Even today, poorer countries still have open sewers running through living areas, being the cause of much disease. Many European Jews were spared from the disease by obeying God’s instruction – i.e. protecting their water supply from contamination and maintaining a separation from their waste.

Commandments against adultery, stealing, fornication, lying, murder, envy, jealousy and more

Not adhering to God’s instructions can take an emotional toll on us.    Emotional unrest not only takes away our peace of mind, it eventually affects our physical health too.

Homosexuality

This subject is very personal for this author, having several much-loved family members who are same-sex couples. However, I have pondered the following thoughts:

  • From a health perspective regarding anal sex.   Whether couples are heterosexual or homosexual, anal sex is more prone to transmitting highly contagious diseases than penile-vaginal sex.  The rectal membrane is more fragile than the vaginal membrane, and anal sex can lead to tears in its lining, enabling infected fluids to enter the body more easily.
  • Likelihood that homosexuality can be explained as a genetic trait?   It seems likely that natural selection would quickly correct such a trait to ensure the survival of the race, and more so when the trait also increases the death rate. God’s design, and nature itself, promotes the procreation of species.
  • Without any intent to be offensive, the following bible verses are presented for those who hold God’s word in high esteem. Fortunately, it is not my place to judge, and I do not, but I do feel deeply for the emotional, mental and physical conflict that same-sex couples may face in trying to reconcile their actions with God’s words. Knowing that God loves us all, it is presumed that He has our best interest at heart.

Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable” – Leviticus 18:22

“Men committed indecent acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion” – Romans 1:27
