PEMF therapy heals / repairs bones

PEMF therapy is advocated for creating strong, healthy bones by stimulating osteoblasts to produce bone material.  It does this by inducing microcurrents (similar to the small currents produced by the piezoelectric effect when exercise and weight bearing exercises put pressure on the bones), which promote the synthesis of bone cells’ extracellular matrix proteins and secretion of osteoblast growth factors to stimulate new bone formation and contribute to enhanced fracture repair. PEMF therapy may enhance angiopoietin-2 expression, affect several membrane receptors and stimulate osteoblasts to secrete growth factors such as BMPs 2 and 4, TGF-β, and FGF-2.

It is also important to balance acid-producing foods with alkaline minerals in the diet to prevent the body needing to leach alkaline minerals, such as calcium, from the bones and teeth.

Research has found that PEMF therapy can heal bone fractures that are up to 40 years old   Bassett, 1995
