Pyrantel Pamoate (antihelmintic) - Parasite Cleanse for dogs and cats:

Pyrantel has not been studied in the pregnant patient

General information:

  • Other trade names: Equi-Phar-dog roundworm, Protal, Strongid-T and Nemex
  • Rigorous cleaning of living quarters and clothing to destroy helminthic ova will help prevent reinfection
  • Product should contain only pyrantel pamoate, and nothing else

Indications and clinical Uses for pyrantel – For the treatment of infection with any of the following gastrointestinal parasites when these are present either alone or as a mixed infection:

  • Threadworm, pinworm (Enterobius vermicularis)
  • Roundworms (i.e. nematodes) (Ascaris lumbricoides; )
  • Hookworms (Ancylostoma duodenaleNecator americanus)
  • Black scour worms (nematodes) (Trichostrongylus colubriformisT. orientalis.)

Pyrantel pamoate dosage

Pyrantel pamoate is usually dosed in dogs and cats at 2.5 to 5 mg per pound (5 to 10 mg/kg) once, then repeat in three weeks.

  • Dogs: Use the dose of 5-10 mg / kg (approximately 1 ml / 5 kg) of body weight;
  • Cats:  1 ½ ml / 5 pounds for cats. In layman’s terms, that is 1 teaspoon per 25 pounds.
