Overview

This restorative “Omega-3 Fix” BUDWIG PROTOCOL” is an enjoyable, deceptively therapeutic DAILY protocol to restore vibrant physical and mental health by supplying typically deficient, undamaged, high-energy, healing omega-3 (and also some omega-6) essential fats. We obtain only a so-so amount of dietary omega-3 fat from such as walnuts, grass-fed meat, and eggs from pastured hens, and although we can get a good supply from oily fish – not many of us do! To make things worse, today’s much-increased intake of generally inflammatory omega-6 fat (much of which is damaged by processing) has created an imbalance with our much-reduced intake of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fat. As, such, it has become necessary to make a deliberate effort to improve our Omega-3 levels and the “Omega-3 Fix” is one way to do just that! 

The therapy also provides important health-beneficial lignans and fiber, and much more.

 The PROTOCOL comprises:

  • A home-made drink or other COLD “O3-Fix” recipe that includes fresh fruit, flax oil, ground flaxseed, and some cottage cheese, low-fat yogurt or powdered whey protein (all sulfurated proteins)
  • A daily marine oil supplement (or eat oily fish 2x /week)
  • Some daily support nutrients

These ingredients provide:

  • Typically deficient, high-energy, healing omega-3 (as well as some omega-6) essential fats. The body responds almost immediately to receiving omega-3 fats (when previously in short supply), improvements being noticed in days not weeks.

At higher-than-maintenance doses it can deal with many health problems

The usual PROTOCOL maintenance dose is 1-2 Tbsp of flax OIL. However, if you are dealing with a specific health problem (e.g. diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease, or cancer), then depending on the severity of the condition, you may need 3-6 Tbsp. flax oil / day for several months.  These extra tablespoons can be obtained in any of the cold / low-temp. O3-Fix recipes. As a cancer therapy, it is one of the few that does not produce inflammation and swelling, making it ideal for treating cancers in the lung, brain or other areas where swelling could be life-threatening. However, it is not a stand-alone therapy for stage IV fast-growing cancers, such as stage IV lung cancer.

The BUDWIG PROTOCOL is an effective treatment for stage IV / ADVANCED (but NOT fast-growing IV+ ) cancer

How can such simple ingredients fix such big health problems?

(1) Flaxseed and marine oils are rich sources of Omega-3 ALA, EPA and DHA 

Lack of dietary O3 in the Western diet is now a well-recognized culprit for the common and serious health issues seen today. 

Scientific studies reflecting this problem have become particularly abundant in more recent years.

Flax oil (extracted or contained in ground flaxseed) and quality marine oil provide an abundant source of anti-inflammatory / “back-to-normal” omega-3 fatty acids, which must be consumed, since the body cannot make them..   

Attending to this pivotal O3 deficiency may be the most effective approach for dealing with serious conditions, as well as minor aches and pains, and to generally maintain health at its best.

Beneficial effects in the body of having a sufficiency of omega-3 EPA and DHA are simply mind-blowing!

(a) Omega-3 fatty acids supply anti-inflammatory, healing, calming eicosanoids

 

Marine oil inherently contains omega-3 EPA and DHA, and omega-3 ALA in flaxseed can be converted by enzymes in the body to EPA and DHA. These very high-energy omega-3 fatty acids produce health-mediating eicosanoids (Cell’s “First Responders”). EPA eicosanoids counter inflammation, mediate immune system response, protect the heart, reduce blood pressure, dilate bronchial passages, protect stomach lining, reduce cell proliferation (as in cancer), DHA eicosanoids are particularly necessary for normal nerve and brain function and need to be present to prevent undue depression and anxiety. Ideally, omega-3 ALA in flaxseed converts to omega-3 EPA and DHA.  Since the Omega-3 ALA to EPA and DHA conversion can be a challenge, it is wise to ensure a daily marine oil supplement or to eat oily fish twice a week.

(b) Omega-3 fatty acids increase cellular energy production

The abundance of high-energy electrons in omega-3 and omega 6 fatty acids in fresh (i.e. not rancid) flax and quality marine oils significantly increase cellular energy production, especially when you take the sun.

When consumed, the high-energy electrons in O3 and O6 fatty acids sit in every cell membrane in the body and attract oxygen for cellular respiration, significantly increasing cellular energy production, (by charging the cell “battery”), which boosts operations in all body systems (including the immune system).

Additionally, when you go out in the sun, electron clouds in these cell membrane fatty acids, which originated from plants or marine-life exposed to and absorbing the sun’s energy frequencies, act as “antennae” to “tune into” (resonate with) incoming solar electromagnetic waves and so receive and store additional solar photon energy.

Charging the cell “battery”

Delivery of omega-3 (and omega 6} to the body’s cells is enhanced when these fatty acids are made water soluble by combining with sulfur-containing protein (the basis of the flax oil / protein protocol designed by emminent German biochemist Dr. Johanna Budwig)

Cottage cheese, yogurt, and /or whey protein provide two sulfur-containing amino acids: methionine and cystine, which readily bond to the unsaturated double bonds in the flax oil fatty acids to make them water soluble. This increases their availability to cells by enabling passage through even the smallest capillaries and allows the oil to bypass processing by the liver (often overworked in ill-health).

(2) Ground flaxseed provides fiber and extremely health-beneficial lignans (phytoestrogens)

"Hats off" to Dr. Johanna Budwig

The Budwig ( flax oil / protein) protocol was designed by emminent biochemist / physicist / pharmacologist /research scientist Dr. Johanna Budwig.

Born in Germany in 1908, Johanna Budwig lived until the ripe old age of 95, passing away in 2003. 

Lending credibility to her protocol:  nominated for 7 Nobel prizes, she was a top European cancer research scientist, blood specialist, and pharmacologist, and also achieved doctoral degrees in both chemistry and physics. In the early 1950’s, she was working for Germany’s civil service as the most senior expert on fats and pharmaceutical drugs and was considered one of the world’s leading authorities on fats and oils.

She used her ingenious therapy in the mid to late 1900’s with many reports of success in restoring health to those with major diseases (even those with advanced cancer).

Dr. Budwig realized that the cells of sick people were not receiving enough oxygen. Her analyses of blood cells in seriously ill cancer patients revealed that their hemoglobin was greenish-yellow, indicating they were not carrying enough oxygen. After several months of using her protocol, hemoglobin was able to carry more oxygen, blood returned to bright red, tumors began disappearing, physical energy was restored, and symptoms of cancer, liver dysfunction, and diabetes were substantially alleviated. According to Dr. Budwig, and those who studied and reported on her work in Germany over a 50 year period, Dr. Budwig’s protocol has had a very high success rate against cancer (lung, colon, breast, ovarian, brain, others, usually in late stage), arthritis, heart disease, arrhythmia, psoriasis, eczema (and other skin diseases), MS and other auto immune diseases, diabetes, respiratory conditions, stomach ulcers, liver dysfunction, IBS and more.

Also linked to dysregulation of fatty acid metabolism are epilepsy, migraines, kidney stones, gallstones, acne, rheumatism, depression and dementia. Dr. Budwig’s book – “Flax Oil As A True Aid Against Arthritis, Heart Infarction, Cancer And Other Diseases”, translated from German to English is a must read for anyone trying to heal themselves from a terminal or chronic disease.

The science behind the BUDWIG PROTOCOL

Undamaged dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids in the body’s cell membranes attract sufficient oxygen to enable efficient cellular energy production

  1. Components of the phospholipids forming cell membranes, undamaged O6 linoleic and O3 linolenic fatty acids (found in flaxseed oil) have abundant clouds of high-energy electrons used to charge the cell membrane “battery”.  According to Einstein’s quantum theory and wave-particle duality, light is both wave and particles. Electrons (particles) delivered via sunlight’s photons (mini-energy-packets of electromagnetic radiation) form charged electron clouds floating above the double carbon bonds in polyunsaturated fatty acids. These electrons vibrate at the natural energy frequencies received from the sun while they were growing and thus enable the cell membrane “antennae” to “tune into” (resonate with) incoming solar electromagnetic waves and so receive and store additional solar photon energy when you go out in the sun. (Renowned Nobel Prize physicist, Niels Bohr enlightened the world that: “No matter can change its condition without absorption of electromagnetic waves (photons) corresponding to the wavelength of its own radiation frequency”). This solar photon energy is used as needed by our bodies for increasing cellular “battery” voltage (by increasing the potential difference between the negatively charged outer cell membrane and positively charged inner membrane). As Budwig wrote in her last book Cancer-the Problem & the Solution, electron-rich fats connected to the sun control all life functions: ” – the brain and nerve functions, the organs of the senses, the secretion of mucous, the functioning of the stomach and intestinal tract, liver, gall bladder and kidneys, the lymph and blood vessels, the skin, respiration, the immunity system, the fertilization processes and sexuality — experiments have proved conclusively that all of these systems and processes of the human being are very much connected with electron-rich highly unsaturated fats as receivers, amplifiers and transmitters of electromagnetic waves, and as overseer of the vital functions.” – Dr. Budwig
  2. Oxygen is strongly drawn towards electrons.  Oxygen is the second “hungriest” (electronegative) element for electrons in the periodic table. Cell membranes containing electron-rich fats thus promote the transfer of large amounts of oxygen into cells. Budwig emphasized that the combination of double unsaturated linoleic acid with triple unsaturated linolenic conjugated fatty acids (both 18-chain length fats found in flaxseed) are particularly energetic and effective for oxygen absorption, even more than the longer 20-chain arachidonic acid.
  3. Charged cell “battery” + oxygen + glucose = Cellular Energy Production.  A highly charged cell “battery” and a good supply of oxygen enable efficient cellular energy production in the cell’s “power-plants” (mitochondria).

In contrast . . .

A healthy cell “battery” level is about -60 to -90 mV (negative because convention has defined it as the difference between the inside to outside membrane voltages i.e. inside is negatively charged relative to outside). When a “cell battery” voltage falls well below its ideal levels, the sodium / potassium pumps will malfunction, cellular energy production will slow/stop, and the cell will either struggle to heal itself or die. In the case of a cancerous cell, the survival mechanism “kicks in” – it is forced to use inefficient glycolysis to produce energy using glucose /not oxygen, and can multiply, but no longer perform its assigned task. This was observed by biochemist Otto Warburg, awarded the Nobel Prize in 1931 for his research on cellular respiration

  • Prevents the cell from “breathing”.  Lack of oxygen-attracting electrons leave cell with insufficient oxygen for oxidation processes essential for cell function; we asphyxiate, even when supplied oxygen from an oxygen tank.
  • Destroys the ability of essential fats to associate with protein and become water-soluble in body fluids.  Fat electrons cannot flow through the fine capillary networks. This is when circulation problems arise.
  • Affects production of new cells.  During cell division the cell and new daughter cell must contain enough electron-rich fatty acids in the cells surface area to divide off completely from the old cell. These damaged fatty acids don’t have the necessary electrons, which results in bringing healthy growth processes to a standstill. Dr. Budwig considered this inactivity to be involved in tumor formation.

 

The “O3 Fix” follows Dr. Budwig’s lead and blends flaxseed oil with protein foods containing sulfur-rich amino acids to make the unsaturated fatty acids water soluble and immediately and widely available to the body. The chemical reaction between them produces lipoproteins that bypass processing by the liver, often impaired in ill-health, and allow easy transport through the blood and other body fluids, even into the smallest capillaries to wherever they are needed. Sulfur-rich amino acids are present in low fat cottage cheese, yogurt, whey protein concentrate, kefir, ricotta cheese, and milk.

Details matter – Additional requirements for oil-protein protocol

The body needs to be treated as a whole system and these details matter:

  • A Specific Diet.   One that does not interfere with and “undo” the protocol. Includes eliminating preservatives, growth-inhibiting drugs, barbiturates and analgesics.
  • Daily sunbathing.  The highly active flax fatty acids sitting in cell membranes have set up the body’s cells to resonate with and receive the sun’s electrons, which attract oxygen to increase cellular energy production
  • Flax oil details.  Oil must be fresh (recent pressing date) and kept refrigerated (not frozen) in a dark bottle
  • Relaxation / Emotional wellbeing / Nature walks

Sulfur-rich amino acids methionine / cystine bonus benefits

  • Detoxifiers.  They attach to and carry out pollutants from the body
  • Sulfur-rich amino acids methionine and cystine are two of the indispensable sulfur-containing antioxidant compounds in the body.   Others include taurine, glutathione (GSH), lipoic acid, N-acetylcystine (NAC) and the 3 major organosulfur compounds of garlic oil.
  • Raw materials needed to produce the body’s powerful water-soluble antioxidant glutathione in the cytosol of every cell. Glutathione provides a “Bulls-eye” for oxidation by radicals and cysteine (Cystine is 2 cysteine residues joined by a disulfide S-S bond) is the rate-limiting factor for its production.

Possible deleterious effect on Omega-3 fat when taking high dose vitamin C

A google scholar search does not reveal any problem.  However, in one of her books, fats expert and author of the BUDWOG PROTOCOL, Dr. Johanna Budwig, emphasized the possibility that antioxidants (in high doses, not those in food) may counteract the oxygen affinity of the fatty acids in flax oil – the basis for their therapeutic value.

In her book “Der Tod des Tumors” (The Death of the Tumor) she writes that antioxidants added to oils are respiratory poisons – especially of the brain and nerves. enzymes cannot function (cytochrome oxidase).

Take the BUDWIG PROTOL with daily vitamin C intake < 2,000 mg (as in Collagen Flaxiccino) separated by at least 2 hours

To err on the side of caution, it is advisable to separate taking omega-3 fats in any form and consuming any high-dose vitamin C supplement < 2,000 mg /day (as in the ‘No-brainer’ Collagen Flaxiccino smoothie) at least 2 hours away from each other. Choosing to use >2 Tbsp. flax oil / day in the BUDWIG PROTOCOL requires more than one dose during the day, which can be managed if the ‘No-brainer’ smoothie is taken in the morning, leaving the rest of the day after a 2-hour hiatus for the BUDWIG PROTOCOL recipe(s). 

The BUDWIG PROTOCOL is NOT COMPATIBLE with daily vitamin C intake > 2,000 mg

For example, The Rath-Pauling therapy for curing heart disease requires > 2g of daily vitamin C and is therefore NOT COMPATIBLE with the BUDWIG PROTOCOL
