Chlorine - an important major mineral

Chlorine takes several chemical forms E.g. Chloride, chlorate.

In small amounts, chlorine is needed by the body:

  • In the stomach for secretion of hydrochloric acid;
  • In the extracellular fluid;
  • To breathe;
  • To regulate the blood’s important acid-base balance.

However, in large amounts it is toxic!  Together with its byproducts, chlorine has been linked to birth defects, cancer, reproductive disorders, stillbirth, and immune system breakdown.

Many sources of chlorine have infiltrated our lives:

  • Excess table salt (sodium chloride).  Competes with iodine, shown to cause hypothyroidism in China.
  • Public (chlorinated) water:  Drinking water, shower and dishwasher steam;
  • Swimming pools, hot tubs
  • Sucralose (Splenda®)

Water chlorination is having detrimental effects on health

Chlorination – Disease causing disinfectant

Chlorine can displace iodine and interferes with the body’s uptake and utilization of iodine.    This can not only reduce thyroid hormone production but also negate many other iodine functions in the body
